Why do we need blood donors?

We regularly treat patients with life-threatening conditions that can be saved through a blood donation or administration of blood products. These conditions include polytrauma, anemia and sepsis, as well as coagulation disorders. A blood transfusion can save lives in such cases.

Your pet can save lives!

How does a donation work?

In total, a blood donation including preparation and follow-up takes approximately 2 hours. First, your pet will undergo a complete clinical examination. Afterward, it will receive venous access through which we will draw blood for a blood test and blood type determination.

If everything is in order during the preliminary examination, your pet may donate blood. For this purpose, blood is drawn from the jugular vein while the animal is lying on its side. The blood donation itself takes approximately 15 minutes. For cats and anxious dogs, sedation may be required.

During the blood draw, your pet will receive fluids directly into the vein. After the donation, a delicious snack awaits our animal heroes!
