Preparing for your appointment at the Vet Zentrum Köln

A visit to the vet can be a stressful experience for many animals. With a little preparation, you can help your pet arrive at our clinic as relaxed as possible. At the same time, you’ll make it easier for us to provide your pet with the best possible care and examination.

To make your visit to the Vet Center Cologne as pleasant as possible, we’ve put together some helpful tips for you.

Familiar smells provide a sense of security

Feel free to bring a blanket or towel that smells like home. Familiar scents provide a sense of security and can help reduce stress—especially for cats.

For cats, we recommend using two towels:

  • one to cover the transport basket
  • one for the basket itself

This creates a calmer and more secure environment during transport and in the waiting area.

Be sober for your appointment – if necessary

For some examinations or procedures, it is important that your pet has an empty stomach. In this case, please do not feed your pet beforehand. Water is usually allowed, unless we have discussed otherwise with you.

If you're unsure, feel free to ask before your appointment.

Bring your medications and important documents

Please bring any medications you have with you or write down the names and dosages. The following documents are also very helpful:

  • Vaccination record
  • Previous findings
  • Laboratory results
  • Medical reports

The more information we have, the better we can care for your pet.

Please feel free to send us any previous medical records in advance

If you already have any test results or medical reports, please send them to us a day before your appointment, if possible. This will allow us to prepare thoroughly and save valuable time during your appointment.

Please arrive a little early

We recommend that you plan to arrive about 15 minutes before your appointment. This will give you plenty of time to check in, ask any questions, and settle in comfortably.

This allows us to focus entirely on your pet during the actual examination.

Tips specifically for cats

Many cats associate the carrier directly with stress. That’s why it often helps to leave the carrier out in the open in your home a few days beforehand. This way, it becomes part of their familiar surroundings and loses some of its negative connotations.

Tips specifically for dogs

A short walk before the appointment can help many dogs arrive feeling more relaxed. Exercise and a little time to sniff around often have a calming effect.

Don't forget your favorite snack

If your pet doesn't need to be fasting, feel free to bring along a small favorite treat. Giving your pet a treat during or after the exam can help them associate the visit with a positive experience.

We look forward to welcoming you and your pets to Vet Zentrum Köln and want to make your visit as pleasant as possible
